Question by Dewayne: Is buying Gold, Platinum or Silver American Eagle Proof coins (US Mint) a good investment?
I imagine this would depend of the how the price of gold, platinum or silver does in the marketplace, but would there also be a collectors' interest even if the prices of metals took a downturn?

Basic way of making money:

Buy low, sell high.

Look at the current cost of gold and silver and compare it to the last 50 years. Is it low right now? If you're buying "high" then it's not a good investment.

Question by leed613: The US Mint does not sell 2010 American Eagle coins, are the coins sold by retail sources legitimate?
The US Mint does not sell 2010 American Eagle coins, but I have seen the coins sold by commercial sources (e.g. Littleton Coins). Are these coins from the retail outlets the same coins originally sold by the mint? If yes (or maybe), how can I be sure?

the mint will only sell to registered coin/bullion dealers.

Littleton Coin and others buy from the Mint, and retail to the consumer.

Question by MT: Why did the US Mint stop making gold and silver eagles for 2009?
I was checking the US Mint website and learned that they most likely won't be selling any Gold or Silver eagle coins because of the demand. Are they planning on minting the Gold and Silver eagle coins in sufficient quantities for collectors anytime soon? Will they be available next year?

Best answer:

Answer by liberty911
There is a link at this webpage which shows the 2009 American Eagle mintage which might be lower than most years. These are always available for a limited time, and I believe the time has expired for 2009. You should be able to find these from many coin dealers but at a premium price. Good luck.

Question by julie i: did the u.s. mint make a special strike on the 2009 high relief double eagle other than the business strike?
I had my 2009 double eagle gold coin graded by anacs and it came back as a SP grade? Or a satin proof or specimen proof? The mint does not admit to any special strikes just the standard business strike as in the brochure. Has anyone heard of a SP grading in relation to the 2009 double eagle? I have seen the SP grading on other coins and this is very confusing to me? Please explain if you know about this issue.
